Gov. Greg Abbott signs bill into law to help Texas police officers pay back student loans
Posted On: Jun 165, 2019
Police departments across the state of Texas will now be able to offer recruits student loan repayment assistance. This comes after Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill into law this week.
Senate Bill 16 allows police departments across Texas to give officers a maximum of $20,000 in state money to pay off their student loans.
“This program creates a valuable tool for our police departments to help recruit and retain future police officers by offering them the opportunity to serve their communities without the worry of burdensome student loan debt. I am proud to sign this law on behalf of law enforcement in Texas,” said Gov. Abbott.
